I’m currently reading “In the company of women”, a book with inspiration and advice from over 100 female (duh) makers, artists and entrepreneurs. I pick it up every time I feel the need for some encouragement and it works every time ✨ I came across this quote from Martine Rose and it resonated with me instantly. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against all corporations but I do think that the freethinkers are the ones that keep life interesting and authentic. To me it’s all about authenticity. Something I’m struggling with lately, feeling like everything I do there’s already someone else doing it better than you and then feeling discouraged. Or even making something and not being sure if maybe you’re being inspired too much by a current trend and not being sure if it’s really you. I guess it’s all part of the process and to be honest also part of the fun sometimes. I know I want to listen to that inner voice more often and find my path to my authenticity. As a graphic designer I’ve learned to adapt to many different styles and that has payed the bills for many years. I’m still going to offer that to my clients but I also want my personal work to be about authenticity. The wonderful thing about that is that who you are today could be something completely different than who you are in 10 years time. Little frog staring at the 🌙 I’ve been quiet here lately. December has been challenging for me and it’s taking me a while to find my rhythm again. Grieving for your child is very unpredictable and full of bumps on the road. I’m working on expecting less from myself and being okay with that and staying true to my needs even if that’s scary when you’re a freelancer and everything depends on you. As a result I’m low on work and that’s extra scary. I personally appreciate other people’s honesty on social media so I decided to share this less talked about are of freelance life. Today is my first “back to work” day after a loooooong break. Okay, I did do some little work here and there last week but today is the first day I’m trying to get back to my (semi-scheduled) productive me 💪🏻 And let’s be honest, these are the days I miss working in an (shared) office 🙈 I’ve always loved office days after a long break! Catching up, getting each other inspired with new books, music or shows and most of all help each other to get the work focus back... Wishing you warmth and love this Christmas. The words merry, jolly or happy are not the right words for me right now as I’m navigating my favorite month of the year mixed with the most intense feeling of loss. December has become the month that our son was born. He was not meant to be born in December at all, he was meant to be a spring baby but the fact that he’s born in this month makes December even more special but also very bittersweet because we don’t get to spend it with him. I’ve been very quiet here, sorry for that but life has been difficult for me lately and I’m trying my best to be mild to myself and to not force anything. I hope you get to feel merry, jolly or happy and if you don’t be kind to yourself and let that be okay. ❤️✨
